Costa Rica Green Season
The green season in Costa Rica usually begins in May with the arrival of afternoon rains. During this period, the fishing activity moves from the southern part of the country to Guanacaste in the north, as the strong winds in the north subside.
Fish spread out more this season, with most rainfall in the south. Fishing is not slow except during peak billfish season.
Deep sea fishing season
From May to November, you can find plenty of sailfish for fishing. It’s also the second season for marlin fishing, and the peak time for catching a variety of fish such as dorado, tuna, and wahoo offshore. This season is perfect for those who prefer meaty fish like snapper and grouper as well as the pelagics above. If you plan to cook or freeze fillets, now is the most productive time to do so after catching them.
