Costa Rica Green Fishing Season
The green season in Costa Rica usually begins in May, marked by afternoon rains. During this period, fishing activity shifts from the southern part of the country to Guanacaste in the north as strong winds there subside.
Fish spread out more this season, with most rainfall in the south. Fishing is not slow except during peak billfish season.
Deep-sea fishing season
From May to November, you can find plenty of sailfish for fishing. It’s also the second season for marlin fishing, and the peak time for catching a variety of fish such as dorado, tuna, and wahoo offshore. This season is perfect for those who prefer meaty fish like snapper and grouper, as well as the pelagics above. If you plan to cook or freeze fillets, now is the most productive time to do so after catching them.

Captain Jose and first mate Kaylen were absolutely amazing on our half day sport fishing trip on the 33ft Second Wind. They made us feel welcomed and provided so much good information about the surrounding area. The fruit platter and fresh guacamole made by Kaylen was amazing. My family (wife and two teenage daughters) was very impressed with entire experience since this was their first offshore fishing trip. We did get into a school of Sailfish at the very end!! We had 4 on at one time and eventually landed 2 beautiful larger 2.5meter sailfish after a quick 15min fight. I can’t enough about professional and personal experience from booking all the way to the end of the trip! Thank you again!!Posted on Phil GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I'll definitely book them again for a sailfish day worth every penny!!!Posted on ZacTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Booked a 3/4 day on Tuna Fish! Picked us up directly from the beach out front of the hotel. First line in the water, fish on! Boat was clean, crew was great - and fish were biting all day.Posted on Lisa TurgeonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Two full days with Tuna fish Sportfishing and WOW !! best charter we’ve ever done, no contest. Non-stop action, amazing crew, and they literally take care of everything for you. Fresh ceviche made on the boat (the BEST we’ve ever had), tons of fish on the lines — mahi, grouper and more. The owner checked in the whole time and even helped us bring our catch back to Canada. Above and beyond service. If you’re looking for an unforgettable, first-class fishing experience, this is the company to book!Posted on Christopher BrimerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hard to capture in words what a fantastic trip we had with Capt Gerardo on the billfish. We were picked up on the beach at our hotel which was so convenient. They had us fishing within an hour and we were landing some great catches - grouper (red and black) snapper, mahi mahi and even a sailfish. The crew - Benjamin, David, and Dario - were great hosts and were patiently helping us to catch the fish. David even whipped up a fresh grouper ceviche while on board from one of our catches. Crew was great about explaining some of the landmarks and history and constantly making sure we were good throughout. Highly recommend using these guys whether you’re a skilled angler or a family wanting to enjoy being out on the water and learning to fish!Posted on daniel connorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Once we found the boat, everything went perfectly. The staff were extremely knowledgable & friendly. The water was REALLY rough but the captain did an outstanding job. We caught a huge sailfish and some Monster Mahis'. Would go again for sure & recommend. Note: make sure to confirm Exactly where to meet before that morning. We did have a tough time getting in touch.Posted on Glen HourdTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Captain Reinaldo and Lucas were a terrific crew, they made us feel welcome and were great guides. They showed us several points of interest as we sailed and pointed out different species of marine life on our half day fishing charter. We caught a beautiful 50” rooster fish and they were essential to ensuring that we successfully and safely brought the fish in the boat! Would definitely book with them again.Posted on Tyler sipeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a great time on the Tuna Fish, even though we trolled for hours and didn't get anything we were able to catch some red snapper at the last minute.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
