Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, offers excellent fishing opportunities, both from shore and by boat. Here’s a quick overview of fishing options and what you can expect:
Shore Fishing
Species: From the beach, you might catch jacks, snook, roosterfish, snapper, and sometimes small barracuda.
Best Gear: Medium spinning rod, 15–20 lb line. Use lures like spoons, poppers, and surface plugs, or live bait if available.
Tips: Early morning and late afternoon are best. Look for rocky outcrops or river mouths along the beach.

Inshore Fishing Charters: Target roosterfish, snapper, grouper, jacks, red snapper, and mackerel. Boats usually stay within a few miles of shore. We recommend booking a half-day (4 hours) fishing trip.
Offshore Fishing Charters: For more adventurous anglers, offshore charters can put you on marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi (dorado), tuna, and wahoo. We recommend booking a full or 3/4 day for a better fishing experience.
